The South African Communist Party (SACP) General Secretary Solly Mapaila has called on Parliament to expedite the establishment of an impeachment committee to investigate President Cyril Ramaphosa regarding the Phala Phala scandal.
This comes after the judgment delivered by the Constitutional Court on Friday.
Mapaila was speaking at the Chris Hani provincial commemoration in Acornhoek near Bushbuckridge in Mpumalanga.
“Let the impeachment come quickly. Let it be quick because if it delays, soon there will be no government properties. In the coming few weeks and months, when accountability is brought to the head … with the Constitutional Court’s ruling on the impeachment of President Ramaphosa, we call on the ANC to embrace full accountability to the people of this country,” says Mapaila.

Meanwhile, on Friday, the African National Congress (ANC) described the Constitutional Court’s judgment as a test of democracy.
The party added that the judgment will be ventilated at Luthuli House soon.
Speaking to the media on the steps of the court after the verdict, ANC Spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu says they will continue to respect the constitution.
“The ANC has always been at the centre of advocating for support for the rule of law, for support for the rule, the bill of rights and at this point in history, we are not going to backdown on that. We have got to respect the judgement. We are going to study the judgment and we are going to make amends where we need to make amends.”
