Geordin Hill-Lewis lifts his fist at the DA delegates after being announced DA Federal Leader.
Democratic Alliance (DA) federal leader, Geordin Hill-Lewis says KwaZulu-Natal must stop being a province of broken services and start functioning as a place where government delivers. Lewis addressed the party’s provincial congress in Durban on Saturday.
Is’khathi sifikile KwaZulu-Natal 🇿🇦💙 Loved being at the @DA_KZN Congress today! ☀️
Getting eThekwini working – and all of South Africa’s cities – is the reason the DA will always expose corruption, serve all residents and fight for our values in government. 🔵 pic.twitter.com/WVUkyT3uQn

He says municipalities must prove they can work, pointing to the uMngeni Municipality in Howick, which the party governs, as an example of what he described as an effective local government. Hill-Lewis says the DA’s next focus is the eThekwini metro, arguing that Durban should be a well-run municipality delivering reliable services, safety, and economic opportunities.
“We know what it means when literally, the very idea of government crumbles and collapses and chaos and disorder take over. This province knows what that means. It knows what it means when people lose faith, that government can work for the people and not for themselves, but all of this reminds me of why our work here matters so much.”
