Prince Buthelezi Mall to boost jobs and rural economy in Empangeni

Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Velenkosini Hlabisa, says the opening of the revamped Prince Buthelezi Mall in Empangeni is set to play a meaningful role in stimulating the rural economy.

The mall, formerly known as Greenhills Mall, has been upgraded and renamed in honour of the late founder of the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi.

Speaking at the official opening, Hlabisa highlighted that the development is expected to create more than 1000 jobs with a strong focus on employing young people.

He emphasised the importance of ensuring long-term economic participation within rural areas.

“This mall will be a backbone of economic development and is expected to create job opportunities. It will officially open its doors tomorrow, and close to a thousand young people, men, and women will benefit. They will wake up in the morning, and at the end of the month, they will be able to put food on the table, pay school fees for their children, and build their homes,” says Hlabisa.

He says the mall is going to bring significant change to this area.
