KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli has called for community unity and urged that justice be served for the Monswamy family. Ntuli was speaking at the mass funeral of the seven members of the family who were kidnapped and killed in Newark, outside Mandeni.
Ntuli commends the collaboration between the police and the community in locating the victims’ bodies and making the arrests. He urges for more collaboration in efforts to push for a harsher punishment for the perpetrators of such heinous crimes.
“Well we said they must rot in jail they don’t deserve to be among the community. We are hopeful that the court will do justice. Already we have collected more than 600 signatures because we want to deposit an affidavit in court that they must not get bail.”

Three people have been arrested in connection with the murders. The family of seven were attacked and kidnapped from their home on Monday night and their bodies were found 200 kilometers in Melmoth, north of the province.
Swift action from police led to the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of the vehicle, belonging to home owner Alan Monswamy.
The violent and tragic murder of the Monswamy family has left affected communities deeply shaken.
Family and friends gathered in grief to pay their final respects. Mourners described the family as caring and loving people who went out of their way to assist others.
The suspects will make their first appearance at the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s court on Tuesday and police are still on the hunt for a fourth suspect.
