Magistrate Olivier’s reactions of AfriForum ‘disheartening’: Lonzi

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) MP, Sihle Lonzi, has raised concerns about Magistrate Twanet Olivier’s reactions whenever Advocate Tembeka Ngcukaitobi mentioned AfriForum during court proceedings today.

Julius Malema made a brief appearance before the Regional Court in KuGompo for the pre-sentencing proceedings in the firearm case.

The case has been adjourned until tomorrow for sentencing.

Malema was found guilty of multiple charges, including unlawful possession of a firearm, discharging a firearm in a built-up area, and reckless endangerment of people or property.

Lonzi says it was disheartening to witness the magistrate be irritated every time AfriForum was mentioned.

“What was even so disheartening was to see how irritable and irritated the magistrate was every time the legal Advocate Ngcukaitobi mentioned AfriForum. It’s as though when you say AfriForum, you are triggering her – you are speaking directly to what is happening inside your heart. Why is she so agitated when we speak about AfriForum because she shouldn’t be worried? She’s a magistrate.”

Meanwhile, legal analyst Kabelo Seabi says that Magistrate Olivier needs to strike a careful balance and deliver a sentencing that is fair and appropriate for Malema.
