United Democratic Movement (UDM) leader, Bantu Holomisa, says the newly appointed United States (US) ambassador is likely to excel in his role due to his experience in engaging with US lawmakers.
President Cyril Ramaphosa yesterday announced the appointment of Roelf Meyer as South Africa’s ambassador of the US.
His appointment comes as the country seeks to improve its relations with Washington.
Holomisa says Meyer is a strategic leader who takes time when making decisions.
“The advantage of his is that he has been receiving lawmakers from USA, from both houses, senators. He has been receiving those delegates coming to South Africa all these years and I don’t think he will have a problem in lobbying those lawmakers in the USA.”
Meanwhile, Ramaphosa has defended Meyer’s appointment, saying he is more than qualified to take on the role.
