Businessman Sulieman Carrim appears before the Madlanga Commission.
The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria says it is still awaiting formal communication from Suliman Carrim’s legal team regarding his appearance before the inquiry this week.
Carrim, a North West businessman, was hospitalised on Monday after allegedly suffering a heart attack.
He was set to continue with his testimony on Thursday after being implicated at the commission by alleged political fixer Brown Mogotsi.
Madlanga Commission spokesperson, Jeremy Michaels, has confirmed that Carrim’s legal team has been in touch with the inquiry and confirmed that he has been hospitalised and will thus be unable to testify.
“So we, from the commission’s perspective, are working on the basis that he will not be able to appear. We are awaiting formal communication from his legal representatives but as I say, we are working on the basis that he will not be able to appear on Thursday.”

Judge Ledwaba
Meanwhile, Michaels says the Commission cannot say when Judge Aubrey Ledwaba, who has been recommended as Judge President of the Gauteng Division of the High Court, will appear before the inquiry.
Judge Ledwaba was implicated at the Madlanga Commission after Witness A and B alleged that he took a R2.5 million bribe to secure Katiso “KT” Molefe’s bail.
Judge Ledwaba denied the allegations.
“We are going to and have been strictly observing the protocols of the confidentiality of our communication. And so, I’m not going to say that so-and-so is going to appear on such-and-such a date. The process is unfolding. It’s dynamic, as we’ve said, on quite a number of occasions. And within the terms of reference, we should and probably will get there at a particular point, which I’m not going to be able to disclose at this point.”
