A third foreign national bus has been intercepted in the Free State roads since the start of the month. The bus ferrying 55 passengers was travelling from Zimbabwe to Cape Town.
The bus was carrying 29 undocumented individuals, including seven minors. The other 26 passengers were documented.
The bus was taken off the road to Lengau Testing Centre in Bloemfontein.
The bus was found to have defective non-functional door as this is a serious safety hazard, as passengers may not be able to enter or exit safely, during an emergency. The trailer was also found with defective brakes and worn tyres.
The driver of the bus was not in possession of a valid driving license but driving with a passport.
This is the third incident of interception of undocumented foreigners in the province since the start of April.
The first incident happened a day before Good Friday when a group of 32 undocumented Zimbabweans nationals including children and infants were detained after the bus they were travelling in was stopped on the N1 near Bloemfontein.
Ten of the 16 undocumented Zimbabweans arrested on the N1 appeared briefly in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday this past week.
