Eastern Cape police say they are on high alert, monitoring an ongoing service delivery protest in Qweba formerly known as Kirkwood.
The protest, allegedly led by taxi operators, has resulted in the blockage of all entry and exit roads in the town.
Authorities have warned that if the protest continues, it will have an adverse economic impact.
Police spokesperson Majola Nkohli says relevant stakeholders are monitoring the situtation.
“Several mini bus taxis were used to block main access routes to the area, which has disrupted commuters and other road users. Members from various policing units, including traffic officers, are on site to divert traffic and manage the situation. Relevant stakeholders, including senior politicians, are busy addressing protestors.”
