The Emfuleni Municipality in the Vaal has announced the temporary closure of the Sharpeville Swimming Pool.
This decision comes as they investigate the death of a 16-year-old boy who reportedly drowned after attempting a flip into the deep end of the pool on Saturday.
Despite efforts by police and emergency services to resuscitate him, he was declared dead at the scene.
The decision to close the pool will enable a thorough review of the incident, including an examination of safety procedures and supervision protocols.
Emfuleni Municipality is currently awaiting a final report which will be shared with the family of the deceased and all stakeholders involved.
