Mohlakeng residents call for SANDF deployment to fight crime

Residents of Mohlakeng, west of Johannesburg, are calling for the deployment of South African National Defence Force (SANDF) members to assist the police in tackling high levels of crime in the area.

The residents say there is not enough capacity of police officers to effectively combat the crime that has plagued the community.

Earlier on Tuesday, residents took to the streets, burning tires and demanding urgent action over rising crime and police inaction.

South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) West Rand sub-regional chairperson Mosa Msimango.

“The push of the community was to say that since the president has promised the deployment, and which the deployment is there but its only in certain areas let it also be prioritised to the community of Mohlakeng. Let the deployment also come to Mohlakeng and assist the limited police resources that are there.”
