A prominent police officer who recently appeared before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry is expected to appear in the Pretoria North Magistrates’ Court today.
Police raided his home in Pretoria and found firearms and ammunition last Thursday.
The officer spent the Easter long weekend in police custody.
Some witnesses who testified before the commission portrayed the officer as a middleman or runner for high-ranking SAPS officials in their dealings with alleged criminal cartel members Vusimuzi ‘Cat’ Matlala and Katiso “KT” Molefe.
The officer was also allegedly involved in tender manipulation in the Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality.
National police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says, “The National Commissioner of the South African Police Service (SAPS) [General Fannie Masemola] has welcomed the arrest and says any member found engaging in corrupt activities will face the full might of the law. There will be no exceptions nor compromise. Accountability is not optional; it is a fundamental pillar of our service.”
