Two suspects have been arrested after police found a cache of unlicensed firearms and ammunition hidden beneath mattress in Batho location in Bloemfontein.
Free State police spokesperson Mahlomola Kareli says officers discovered 23 boxes of various caliber ammunition hidden near a kitchen cabinet at the suspect’s residence.
He says four rifles, including an air gun were hidden beneath the mattress in the bedroom.
A total of 1 163 rounds of ammunition and four rifles were confiscated during the operation.
A 46-year-old foreign national and his 36-year-old girlfriend, were immediately arrested.
They are expected to appear in the local Magistrate’s Court soon.
