Northern Cape Co-operative Governance MEC, Bentley Vass
The Northern Cape’s biggest local municipality, Sol Plaatjie might be placed under administration. This after it failed to deliver on a directive from the Northern Cape MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Bentley Vass.
Vass is yet to determine a solution for the chaos at the Municipality in Kimberley, after it failed to adhere to a section 139 directive in March, giving council 14 days to provide reasons why the municipality should not be placed under administration or dissolved.
This follows a series of collapsed council meetings, where walkouts were staged due to divisions over the status of municipal manager Thapelo Matlala.
CoGTA spokesperson Tebogo Monyo says they are concerned with what is happening in the municipality.
“As a way forward, I am sure MEC Vass’ next step will be to ensure good, sound and administrative governance so that ultimately the municipality is able to provide good services.”
