Ladysmith Black Mambazo’s Albert Mazibuko passes away


Retired, long-standing member of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Albert Mazibuko, has passed away at aged 77 in KwaZulu-Natal.

The group’s Manager Xolani Majozi confirmed that Mazibuko passed away in the early hours of Monday morning after battling a short illness.

This as the Isicathamiya group is on tour in the United States.

In a statement, the Ladysmith Black Mambazo says Mazibuko was known as “the librarian” and was the custodian of the group’s history.

Born in Ladysmith, Mazibuko joined Ladysmith Black Mambazo in 1969 and dedicated more than five decades of his life to music.
