Garden Route district reports no new foot and mouth disease cases

The Garden Route District Municipality in the Western Cape says no new cases of foot and mouth disease have been reported over the past two weeks. The official number of farms in the region affected by the disease remains at seven.

State Veterinarian, Leana Janse van Rensburg, says all cases are still contained within the Mossel Bay area for now. She says the result of one site is still pending, while 17 others have tested negative.

Over 44 000 vaccines have been administered thus far. The Garden Route Municipality’s Disaster Management Centre and law enforcement are maintaining vigilance in the quarantine zone.
