Garden Route Municipality says no new cases of FMD reported in past two weeks

The Garden Route District Municipality in the Western Cape says no new cases of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) have been reported over the past two weeks.

The official number of farms in the region affected by the disease remains at seven.

State Veterinarian, Dr. Leana Janse van Rensburg says that all cases are still contained within the Mossel Bay area, for now.

She says that the results of one site is still pending, while 17 others have tested negative.

Over 44 000 vaccines have been administered thus far.

The Municipality’s Disaster Management Centre and law enforcement are maintaining vigilance in the quarantine zone to limit the movement of cattle and contain the spread of the disease.
