TMPD arrests 40 in Easter road crackdown

The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) says its officers have arrested over 40 people for various road traffic violations during its Easter Road Safety operations along the N1 Highway on Thursday.

Some of the offences include drinking and driving, drinking in public and jaywalking. Various law enforcement agencies are conducting roadblocks as holidaymakers travel to various destinations for the Easter Weekend.

TMPD spokesperson, Isaac Mahamba, was speaking at the Pumulani Toll Plaza in Pretoria.

Mahamba says TMPD has deployed their members on all the main roads that lead in and out of Tshwane.

“The sole purpose is to make sure that we check for vehicles that are supposed to be roadworthy. If your vehicle is not roadworthy, we’ll make sure that we deal with you according to the Road Traffic Act, and again, we check the fitness of the drivers, but we are happy with our members. They are doing extremely well on the roads. For instance, on Thursday, on this stretch of road, we had road blocks, and we arrested over 40 people for different traffic violations,” he adds.
