E. Cape, LP crashes claim five lives


Three people have died in a head-on collision on the R67 between Seymour and Whittlesea early on Friday morning, in the Eastern Cape. Provincial Transport Spokesperson, Unathi Binqose, says the accident occurred between an SUV and a sedan vehicle.

Binqose says two occupants in the SUV were burnt to death when it caught fire. While a driver of the sedan who was alone in the vehicle was also declared dead on the scene.

Binqose says a 13-year-old boy, who was also a passenger in the SUV, managed to escape the burning vehicle and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Meanwhile, two people have been killed and four others wounded in a head-on collision between two sedans on the R81 road at Dzingidzingi village near Giyani in Limpopo, on Thursday night.

The wounded, including both drivers, have been taken to the hospital.

Traffic authorities say the deceased, both females, were occupants of one of the vehicles.

Authorities suspect reckless driving as a possible cause of the collision.
