Allan Boesak at the Durban City Hall Good Friday Service
Reverend Professor Allan Boesak says corruption in government is negatively impacting the poor.
He delivered a sermon at an early Good Friday inter-denominational service hosted by the Diakonia Council of Churches in Durban.
The service was attended by KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli, eThekwini mayor Cyril Xaba, and Deputy Transport Minister Mkhuleko Hlengwa, among others.
Boesak has encouraged leaders to always put the people first. He also urged those in power to lead with justice, compassion and humility.
He says, “If you hear the hopes of our elders, whose side are we on? If you hear the aspirations of our young people, frustrated but maybe still hopeful, whose side are you on? Are we the people who give hope? Are we the people who stand with those who fight still for justice? Whose side are we on? We’ll think about this as we go through the day. It’s not just about the church. It’s not just about the institutions”.
