Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) Gauteng Chairperson Nkululeko Dunga has been sworn in as the new Finance MEC.
Gauteng Deputy High Court Judge President Aubrey Ledwaba presided over the swearing-in ceremony in Johannesburg.
Dunga takes over from Lebogang Maile, who’s now MEC for Education, Sport, Arts and Culture. This follows Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi’s cabinet reshuffle yesterday.
Lesufi says the appointment will help strengthen relations with the ANC’s coalition partners.
“It has been extremely difficult purely because of the number game in the legislature. We spent more time consulting or persuading other political parties rather than executing our responsibilities, which has hindered our ability to implement policies effectively and address pressing issues in the province. The inclusion of the EFF in the executive council brings stability, not only to the province. We have also five or six municipalities that we are running with other political parties,” says Lesufi.
