The African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) in Gauteng has rejected Premier Panyaza Lesufi’s cabinet reshuffle.
The league criticised the appointment of Nkululeko Dunga from the Economic Freedom Fighters as Finance MEC, calling the move a political gimmick that will not benefit residents.
Dunga takes over from Lebogang Maile, who has been deployed to lead the Education and Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation portfolio.
ANCYL provincial secretary, Mpumelelo Sangweni, has called for Lesufi to be held accountable for the decision.
“The provincial working committee meeting resolved that whatever the premier does, it must not reduce the numbers of the ANC. Now, we have a situation where the premier went against the decision of the ANC, and we are calling for the ANC in the province to ensure that there are consequences for that – to establish the ANC as the centre of power, not an individual ship.”
