New Brixton reservoir set to ease Joburg water woes: Lesufi

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi says the construction of a new ground reservoir and a tower in Brixton in Johannesburg has been successfully concluded.

The reservoir and tower will help to address ongoing water supply challenges across the City of Johannesburg.

Residents in the city have been living with persistent water cuts for years.

Lesufi says the projects are already making a difference in strengthening water provision across Johannesburg suburbs.

He was briefing the media on matters related to governance, as well as ongoing efforts to strengthen and improve service delivery in the province.

“As the Gauteng Provincial Government, we are resolute in our mission to secure reliable, sustainable and equitable water supply for all our residents. We will continue to invest in modernising infrastructure, expand capacity and work tirelessly to ensure that every household, every business and every community has access to water that they need.”

Swearing in of MECs

Meanwhile, Lesufi says Gauteng‘s new MECs are set to be sworn in on Thursday. This comes after the premier announces a reshuffle in his cabinet earlier.

Nkululeko Dunga of the Economic Freedom Fighters is now the Finance MEC, while former Finance MECLebogang Maile, will now head the Education department

Lesufi says the reconfiguration of departments is aimed at stabilising local government and growing the provincial economy.
