Minister Chikunga receives a memorandum from Autism Matters RSA

Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Sindisiwe Chikunga, has received a memorandum from organisations representing people living with autism.

The organisations marched to Parliament in Cape Town to raise awareness of autism.

This, as South Africa joins the international community in commemorating World Autism Month.

The event highlights South Africa’s push for a society that will include people on the autism spectrum.

The department’s Chief Director for Advocacy, Phuti Mabelebele, says the disability sector organised this march to highlight the challenges that are experienced by persons with autism.

“This particular march in particular is organised by the disability sector to highlight the challenges that are experienced by persons with autism in South Africa and also to highlight the plans of persons with disabilities in realizing that they’ve got human rights and therefore we have got to support, we’ve got to ensure that they are part and parcel of all our planning or decision-making and implementation in South Africa.”
