SARS tops R2 trillion revenue milestone for first time

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has exceeded R2 trillion in revenue collections for the first time in its history.

Presenting the revenue results in Pretoria, SARS Commissioner Edward Kieswetter says the organisation collected a total of R2.010 trillion.

Kieswetter, whose seven-year tenure at the helm of the organisation ends this month, says the milestone marks a year-on-year revenue growth of 8.8% despite the constrained economic environment.

“So, the revenue announcement for this year just exceeded R2,010 trillion, I think it’s a special moment for us. This is no ordinary results announcement, this is a historic milestone of crossing R2 trillion thresholds in our history, a defining moment and for me a very special moment to handover the baton to my successor. I can now go in peace. This is a R155 billion more than what we collected a year ago.”
