ANCYL calls for probe after NSFAS pays over 800 dead students

The African National Congress Youth league (ANCYL) has called for the arrest of officials who were responsible for the allocation of National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) bursaries to more than 800 deceased beneficiaries, as seen in an Auditor-General report.

It says thousands of ineligible recipients also received funds meant for students from poor backgrounds.

The league has described revelations by the Auditor-General as a betrayal of young people.

Treasurer-General Jacob Tau says they’re also calling for a probe into the matter and a complete system overhaul.

“We are calling for immediate investigation, forensic investigation and we also commend that must come closer to the scene. People must be arrested, those that were part and parcel of these irregularities must be arrested.”
