Police have not yet confirmed the number of fatalities following a collision between two vehicles on the N1 near Modimolle in Limpopo.
Reports indicate that five people may have been killed in the crash, which occurred on Wednesday morning.
Authorities say investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances and confirm the number of casualties.
The provincial Transport Department’s spokesperson, Mashudu Mabata says, “There’s been a serious accident on N1 between Mookgopong Y-press and High Accident Zone towards Modimolle. Two vehicles have collided.North bound lane is temporarily closed. Traffic is being diverted to the southbound lane to maintain flow. EMS, SAPS, and Traffic Police are on the scene Motorists are advised to exercise caution and plan alternative routes if possible.”
The incident comes as Limpopo experiences increased traffic volumes during the Easter period.
The province is known for high levels of road accidents during peak travel times as motorists travel to various destinations.
