Proteas women clinch two-wicket victory over New Zealand in first ODI

The South African women’s cricket team recorded a stunning last-ball victory in the first of three One Day Internationals against New Zealand in Christchurch.

The Proteas beat the White Ferns by two wickets. Chasing 269 for victory, top order batters, Annerie Dercksen and Sune Luus, laid the foundation with a 123-run third wicket partnership.

Dercksen top scored with 72, before young Kayla Reyneke showed maturity with an unbeaten 42 off 32 balls under immense pressure.

Earlier, Ayabonga Khaka finished with career-best figures of six for 56 as the Proteas restricted their hosts to 268 all out.

The second match will be played on Wednesday in Wellington.
