SACP General Secretary Solly Mapaila
The South African Communist Party has attributed the booing of some of its leaders at the African National Congress (ANC) events to the utterances and conduct of some senior leaders of its alliance partners regarding its decision to go to elections independently.
The Communist Party’s General Secretary, Solly Mapaila, reacted after the SACP representative was booed by the ANC delegates while delivering a message of support during the Limpopo elective conference.
Relations between the alliance’s partners have been strained since the SACP announced that it would contest elections independently.
Mapaila says this conduct is concerning, especially from its alliance partner, the ANC.
“We have been booed several times, I have been booed in front of senior leaders of the ANC, and it is not a new thing. I think what is worrying is the statements of senior ANC leaders that are fuelling this hostility and belligerent attitudes towards the SACP as if it is the enemy, and it is not the case. Almost 99 per cent of our members belong to the ANC, so when you attack the SACP from the ANC side, you are attacking yourself, or you are attacking your own members”.
