Firefighters battle blaze above De Doorns in Hex River Valley

Firefighters in the Cape Winelands District Municipality (CWDM) are battling a fire in the mountains above De Doorns in the Hex River Valley.

The fire, which started late Saturday night, has been fueled by light winds, fynbos and alien vegetation.

Spokesperson Jo-Anne Otto says although the fire has spread across a wide area, crews made good progress during cooler night-time conditions.

“Additional resources have been deployed this morning. A second ground team is hiking to the right flank of the fire-line, while the initial crew continues to make progress along the left flank. Firefighters will remain on scene throughout the day. At this stage, there is no threat to property or orchards.”
