Pres Ramaphosa working to ensure that SAPS remains stable: Magwenya

President Cyril Ramaphosa says he will be working with the Minister of Police to ensure that the South African Police Service (SAPS) remains stable and able to continue fulfilling its mandate.

In a statement, the President noted the confirmation by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) of a summons for National Police Commissioner, General Fannie Masemola and the arrests of 15 senior police officers in a procurement-related matter.

The NPA has not clarified what charges Masemola is facing.

The top cop was served with a notice to appear in court on the 21st of April.

The matter is linked to the Medicare24 Tshwane District police contract saga.

Meanwhile, several senior police officers appeared at the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on charges of corruption relating to the same multi-million-rand contract.

Presidential spokesperson, Vincent Magwenya, says, “President Ramaphosa will be addressing the matter concerning General Masemola in accordance with the law. The President is working together with the Minister of Police to ensure that the South African Police Service (SAPS) remains stable and able to continue fulfilling its police mandate.”
