MK Party launches court bid to strip Adv. Batohi of pension, benefits

The Gauteng High Court in Pretoria will hear the uMkhonto we Sizwe (MK) political party’s urgent bid to block the payment of former National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP), Adv. Shamila Batohi‘s pension and other post-term gratuities as well as to reverse the decision to fund her legal costs in the Nkabinde Inquiry.

In papers, filed before the court, the MK Party argue that this bid seeks to ensure that the payment of public funds is “lawful, rational and constitutionally defensible” in circumstances where concerns are raised about what the party describes as Batohi’s “misconduct”.

The party adds that the concerns were crystalised during Batohi’s testimony at the Nkabinde Inquiry.

The MK Party is of the view that there is material regarding Batohi’s tenure which must be considered before any payment of financial benefits is authorised.

The three-part application is set to begin at 10:00am.
