Suspect arrested in R5.6 mln drug bust near Worcester

Drugs with an estimated street value of R5.6 million has been seized and a 59-year-old man arrested after the police intercepted a truck on the N1 near Worcester in the Western Cape.

Police say members of the Breede River K9 Unit acted on a tip-off about drugs being transported from Johannesburg to Cape Town.

Provincial Police Spokesperson Wesley Twigg says the truck was spotted during surveillance and pulled off the road.

Twigg says, “The narcotic dog Bella was utilised to sniff through the drivers compartment and reacted to two boxes in it. Upon searching the truck, the members discovered 20 plastic containers containing methamphetamine and subsequently arrested a 59-year-old male for the possession of drugs. The suspect will appear in the Worcester Magistrates’ Court once he has been charged.”
