AmaZulu FC’s long-standing supporter ‘Usuthu Queen’ dies

AmaZulu Football Club long-standing supporter has passed away, Luyanda Mbuyazi, who was well known as “Usuthu Queen” to South African football lovers, died in the early hours of Tuesday after a short illness.

Usuthu Queen made it into the hearts of football fans through her unwavering support for AmaZulu FC and South African football, as well as her unique dress code.

In a statement, AmaZulu says Mbuyazi will be remembered not only for her passion for the game, but also for the pride with which she carried the colours and culture of AmaZulu FC.

Mbuyazi became widely recognized for her unwavering loyalty and vibrant presence within the Usuthu fan base. Her love for the club went far beyond matchdays. She represented the spirit of the supporters, energetic, proud and deeply connected to the identity of Usuthu. Through her advocacy and participation in supporter initiatives, she helped strengthen the voice and visibility of AmaZulu fans.”

Mandlenkosi Shandu, a huge fan of Richards Bay Football Club, says Mbuyazi will not only be missed by AmaZulu FC supporters, but also by every soccer fan who attends matches, especially in KZN.

“We are very saddened by the passing of Usuthu Queen, I started to know her way back around 2015/2016 season when AmaZulu were relegated and struggling to find promotion back to topflight football. We met and cherished every moment, we went to Gauteng together as we were invited by Black Label for the Carling Knockout Launch. May her soul Rest in Peace (RIP).”

Funeral details are set to be confirmed in due course.

Mbuyazi’s death follows the passing of an Orlando Pirates fan, Charles “Makhalanjalo” Fantisi, who died last week.

AmaZulu FC are currently in 5th position with 31 points from 20 games, and they are set to host Richards Bay FC on Saturday.

Usuthu is looking for a win after being knocked out of the Nedbank Cup tournament by Casric Stars last weekend.
