The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure says Minister Dean Macpherson has welcomed the State Security Agency’s (SSA) involvement in investigating allegations of the unlawful interception of sensitive information within the department.

The DA welcomes this serious action, as it unacceptable that staff of a department may drive political agendas against the minister. pic.twitter.com/mKIZhC29UD

The Department says the matter was raised with the SSA Minister, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, following concerns reported by the department’s Director-General, Sifiso Mdakane.
It is believed the alleged interceptions originate from within the department itself, and not from external state entities.
Macpherson describes the situation as extremely serious, saying the SSA is best placed to conduct the investigation. He also emphasises that ongoing reforms within the department will continue without interference. The Minister further reaffirms that the establishment of a State Property Investment Vehicle remains central to efforts to improve efficiency and service delivery within the department.
