Cape Town International Airport (CTIA) says its main runway and Domestic Terminal Building will be revamped at a cost of around R9 billion, with construction expected to start in April, next year.
The airport’s plans for upgrades to infrastructure are part of a broader R21.7 billion infrastructure investment programme across the network of the Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA).
The appointment of a contractor for the new realigned runway is planned for December this year.
Work on the expansion of the Terminal Building is anticipated to start next year.
ACSA says the projects will be carefully phased-in to ensure continued operational performance and to minimise disruptions to passengers and airline partners.
