The accused Bellarmine Mugabe and Tobias Matonhodze appear at the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court.
Two additional charges have been added to Bellarmine Mugabe and his co-accused Tobias Matonhodze who made their first appearance in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Both were initially only facing an attempted murder charge, but they now also face charges of possession of a firearm and defeating the ends of justice, over the missing gun which was allegedly used to shoot their gardener last week Thursday.
There was a bit of a delay to the start of the proceedings as both of the accused, Bellarmine Mugabe and Tobias Matonhodze were taken to the Randburg Magistrate’s Court instead of being brought to the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court for their first appearance.
Eventually they arrived and two additional charges have been added.
“Attempted murder count 1, count 2 defeating the ends of justice and count 3 possession of a firearm,” said State Prosecutor Lufuno Maphiri.
Initially they had just been facing an attempted murder charge relating to their alleged involvement in the shooting of their gardener who still remains in a critical condition and he is under police guard.
The bail application is now scheduled for 3 March.
“Police still need to approach home affairs and other agencies to verify a number of things relating to the accused,” says Mugabe Legal Team Sinenhlanhla Mnguni.
Both the accused Bellarmine Mugabe and Tobias Matonhodze will remain in custody until that bail application.
