MKP wants to settle a political score with Batohi: Analyst

University of South Africa (Unisa) Professional Ethics lecturer Mametlwe Sebei says the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MKP) wants to settle a political score with former National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) Adv Shamila Batohi.

The MKP has made an urgent application in the High Court in Pretoria to block  Batohi’s pension and post‑term gratuities pending a review.

The party argues that it is seeking to ensure that public funds are used lawfully.

The three‑part case is scheduled for a hearing next month.

Sebei says the MKP’s action is in revenge for what happened to its member and impeached former Public Protector Adv Busisiwe Mkhwebane.

He says, “You can only make sense of it if you locate the whole strategy of MK(P) and in terms of their revenge for what has happened, I think to the former Busisiwe Mkhwebane, why? Because the inquiry is ongoing in case of the Public prosecutor, and I don’t think so far there is anything that has been definitely proved, and insofar as misconduct, there are allegations.”
