The Ad Hoc Committee probing allegations of criminal infiltration, corruption and political interference in the country’s criminal justice system under way at Parliament in Cape Town
The Ad Hoc Committee that has been investigating allegations by the KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi is meeting in Cape Town on Monday. Mkhwanazi made wide-ranging allegations of criminal infilitration, corruption and political interference.
The meeting is discussing housekeeping issues, including questions for President Cyril Ramaphosa and correspondence received. The Committee has drawn up 122 questions for the President.
The committee members met on Monday to discuss the next list of witnesses.
On Tuesday, North West businessman Brown Mogotsi will appear before Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee. Mogotsi had initially preferred to appear virtually, citing safety concerns.
However, Evidence leader Norman Arendse says Mogotsi is now expected to appear in person.
“He will be appearing in person tomorrow. You may have noticed that we haven’t provided a statement due to continued difficulties in contacting Mr Mogotsi.”
Earlier, Mogotsi refused to appear in person before the committee unless Parliament paid for his security detail for seven days. The institution has indicated that it is continuing to engage with him.
