AmaZulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini.
Zulu cultural analyst Khaya Ndwandwe says King Misizulu kaZwelithini‘s rivals should accept defeat after the Constitutional Court ruled in favour of the legitimacy of the Zulu monarch.
The apex court dismissed an application for leave to appeal by a faction of the Zulu royal family.
They wanted to appeal the October 2025 Supreme Court of Appeal judgment that affirmed President Cyril Ramaphosa’s recognition of King Misuzulu kaZwelithini.
Ndwandwe says the court’s ruling affirms that the reigning king is the rightful heir to the throne.
“They must accept that the ConCourt has ruled. We know that before there was no government gazette, no constitution. He went to the kraal and hunted the lion. From there he came back, and they gave him a stick, which we call Inhlendla, to show that he is the leader of the Zulu nation. All rituals were performed to Isilo from the beginning. So, I think from now going forward the Zulu royal house have to sit down and reconcile.”
