Mkhwebane refutes Sibiya’s ‘cleared of wrongdoing’ claim

Impeached Public Protector Advocate Busisiwe Mkhwebane has sought to clarify suspended Deputy National Police Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya’s claims at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

On Wednesday, he said Mkhwebane had cleared him and the City of Johannesburg of wrongdoing over his appointment as head of Group Forensic Investigation Services.

But Mkhwebane says her office’s 2022 report lists irregularities and calls for further action. This contradicts Sibiya’s testimony.

Mkhwebane explains the discrepancies in Sibiya’s testimony.

“This report was taken on review, and the court even set it aside. So, firstly the court set it aside, it means that report is no longer [applicable] – the very same one which he alleges had cleared him, was no longer applicable. But further, we opened a perjury case- because he lied to the public protector,” adds Mkhwebane.
