Booysen’s lawyer says inconsistencies in state witness Mr X’s testimony

The defense counsel of alleged underworld crime boss, Jerome Booysen, has pointed out iin the evidence given by a state witness Mr X before becoming a section 204 witness.

Booysen’s lawyer Advocate Amanda Nel has continued with her cross-examination of Mr X in the Western Cape High Court.

Booysen and 11 co-accused face charges relating to the 2017 murder of Brian Wainstein, and charges related to the Prevention of Organised Crime Act.

Nel began by referring to the notes Mr X made to the police in 2018, where he stated that a meeting took place in November 2017 at Mark Lifman’s house between Booysen, Lifman and Andre Naude.

The meeting discussed a hit on alleged underworld gang boss, Nafiz Modack and Booysen’s brother, Colin for R500 000 each.

This was in retaliation for the control of security at night clubs around Cape Town. But Nel put it to Mr X that he did not mention an amount of R500 000 in the previous occasion, and none of the alleged meeting and hits involve her client.

The matter will resume on Monday.
