South African Weather Service warns of severe storms in northern KZN


The South African Weather Service (SAWS) says a severe thunderstorm accompanied by heavy downpours, damaging winds and excessive lightning is expected to hit areas in the northern part of KwaZulu-Natal.

Weather forecaster Wiseman Dlamini says areas likely to be affected include uThukela, uMzinyathi, Amajuba and others.

Dlamini is urging residents to heed the weather warnings.

“The weather for tomorrow in KZN there is 60% of showers and thundershowers over the western part of KZN while there is 30 percent and thundershowers over the eastern part of KZN including the coastal area. We also have a warning out for tomorrow 70% of thunderstorm for the following municipalities, uThukela district, uMzinyathi, Amajuba as well Zululand district. So the thunderstorms in the aforementioned municipalities can expect 70% of thunderstorms to be accompanied by strong winds, severe lightning and small amount of large hail.”
