Details surrounding the search and rescue operation for five Ekapa Mine workers trapped underground following a mud rush in the early hours of Tuesday morning remain unclear.
The Kimberley-based mine said in a statement after the incident that five workers were unaccounted for and that their families had been notified.
The National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) has called on mine management to provide detailed updates on the rescue efforts and to confirm whether contact has been established with the missing miners.
