Service delivery vehicles unveiled by the Emfuleni Local Municipality at their offices in Vanderbijlpark.
Some residents of the embattled Emfuleni Local Municipality in the Vaal are skeptical that the new vehicle fleet unveiled by Executive Mayor, Sipho Radebe, will end their service delivery woes. The new fleet includes 15 pick-up trucks.
The second phase of the fleet, which will comprise 15 compactors and 10 skip loaders, will be unveiled in March.
The municipality has been battling to collect waste in several areas. It says its waste collection department has only two tippers and one loader machine.
“I don’t think they will work for us, maybe certain groups of people in certain areas but not all of us. I don’t understand why they are purchasing trucks whereas they have trucks at the Vereeniging office. Those trucks are supposed to be serviced but they are standing there not working,” says one of the residents.
Another resident says, “It’s terrible. People are paying rates and taxes, and their areas are still like this. It means their money is going to waste, why are they paying?
