Three choppers join Cape Town fire fighting efforts

Three choppers have joined Cape Town firefighters in efforts to contain a veld fire on the slopes of Devils Peak near the CBD. The fire ignited along Phillip Kogosana Drive during strong winds.

Fire and Rescue spokesperson Jermaine Carelse says 35 firefighters and crews from Table Mountain National Park are on the scene.

“Currently we have three choppers water bombing the area. An Incident Management Team Type 4 has been activated to oversee operations. At this time no property is in danger and no injuries have been reported.”

City Traffic Services spokesperson, Kevin Jacobs, says they have closed Phillip Kgosana Drive and all vehicles are being diverted towards Nelson Mandela Boulevard.
