A 25-year-old woman has been sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment for attempted murder and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm by the Mokopane Regional Court in Limpopo.
Yvonne Maja was found guilty of burning her ex-boyfriend and his partner with acid.
NPA Spokesperson Mashudu Malabi says the court heard that Maja went to the ex-boyfriend’s home at Mogoto village outside Lebowakgomo on Valentine’s Day in 2024.
Malabi says Maja found him with another woman, and she took out a bottle containing acid and poured it on them, causing severe injuries.
“This follows an incident which has happened on Valentine’s Day of 2024. The court heard that the accused poured the complainant with an acid on her face and it resulted in her face being deformed,” says Malabi.
