The Mpumalanga High Court in Mombela has heard that the Mdluli family had tampered with the scene where Solomon Mdluli was murdered.
Mdluli was killed in White River in January 2017.
It is alleged that his wife, Ethel Mdluli, contracted two men to kill her husband at their home.
Police say Mdluli was assaulted and strangled to death before items such as cellphones, a television and a vehicle were stolen from the house.
The vehicle was found parked outside the KaNyamazane police station three days later.
Sergeant Sibusiso Masina told the court that he instructed the family not to clean the house as he wanted to do further investigations. He says when he returned he found that the family had cleaned the house.
