Knysna Municipality intensifies water security to avoid Day Zero

The water stressed Knysna Municipality in the Western Cape says it significantly intensified its water security interventions, as part of ongoing efforts to avoid Day Zero.

This is also to stabilise the municipal water system.

It said the most immediate and effective way to stabilise the system is responsible for water use by all residents, businesses, and visitors.

Knysna Mayor, Thando Matika, says the municipality is deploying every available resource and exploring all possible interventions to safeguard Knysna’s water supply.

The Akkerkloof Dam has less than three weeks’ supply at current consumption levels.

Water from boreholes are being tankered directly into the Water Purification Works, with four 30 000 litre trucks, donated by Gift of the Givers, currently in operation as part of this initiative.
