Senzo Meyiwa murder trial resumes

Defence witness Makhosonke Zungu is expected to return to the High Court in Pretoria when the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial resumes on Tuesday morning.

On Monday, Zungu said he didn’t testify on behalf of the state, as he was uncomfortable with what they allegedly wanted him to say.

Zungu is the man that Constable Sizwe Zungu said he had been with when he went to a hostel in Vosloorus, east of Johannesburg, on the day that Meyiwa was shot dead.

Five people are on trial for allegedly killing the former Bafana Bafana captain in October 2014.

This is what transpired between the state witness and defence counsel Charles Mnisi on Monday.

Mnisi: “The basis of the argument that you had is that there was information that was contained in a statement that you said was never read back to you, that you did not agree with?

Zungu: “Yes.”

Mnisi: “And then, subsequent to that disagreement, then it was proposed that you should be taken out from the list of witnesses because … you would not be testifying on something that will be favourable to the state.”

Zungu: “Because I was in disagreement with what was written there which was not said by me.”
